Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke says no changes should be made to Arizona’s Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument.
In April, President Trump ordered a review of several national monuments saying they lacked the proper public input and they were designated to create barriers to mining and development.
Zinke said in a statement, “Grand Canyon-Parashant has some of the most pristine and undeformed geological formations in North America, which show the scientific history of our earth while containing thousands of years of human relics and fossils.”
It’s the fifth monument the secretary has said should not be changed. So far, Zinke has recommended changes only to Bears Ears in southern Utah.
