Phoenix's Burton Barr Central Library remains closed until further notice. The city responded this week to make sure similar damage doesn't happen in any of its buildings.
The city manager sent out a memo updating staff on how outside experts are looking at the damaged library.
The report says the roof was lifted by a microburst, fell back into place and stirred up dust, triggering the fire extinguishing sprinklers. And, those pipes in the roof leaked for widespread water damage.
The city manager has created an internal committee to look at building maintenance and the fire-suppression systems in every single city-owned building in the next 30 days.
That would include the city's 16 other libraries, 32 community centers and dozens of other buildings.
Damage consultants are expected to announce by Aug. 8 when the Burton Barr library building could re-open.
