The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Glendale, alleging the city violated the employment rights of a National Guard member fired in 2016.
The complaint filed this week says Glendale violated the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, which protects against discrimination against service members.
National Guard member Rebecca Cruz, who was hired to Glendale's Public Works Department last year, says the city fired her after learning she would be absent for two months of military training.
The lawsuit says Glendale should re-pay all lost wages and benefits, and reinstate Cruz to her job.
When reached for comment, Glendale said it cannot comment on individual personnel matters.
