What Can We Do To Not Get Sick On Planes?

It’s happened to the best of us — you get on a plane and a few days later, you wake up feeling sick. That’s because it’s so easy to catch an infection on a plane.

This reaches a new level when there’s an outbreak of a dangerous infectious disease, like ebola or SARS. When that happens, airlines put out travel restrictions to try to prevent the spread.

So what can we do to stop this and not get sick on a plane? Well, new research out of Arizona State University has some answers — and, it’s not all about hand sanitizer.

For more on this, I sat down with one of the researchers who looked at this issue, Anuj Mubayi. He’s an assistant professor of applied mathematics in ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change, Simon A. Levin Mathematical Computational Modeling Science Center, and co-director of the Mathematical Theoretical Biology Institute at ASU.
