Over the next three months, the Arizona Department of Transportation will be installing traffic cameras along Interstate 17 to detect wrong-way drivers. The project will lead to various closures in Central and North Phoenix.

The construction for this first-in-the-nation project will cause Glendale Avenue to be closed in both directions at 1-17 from 9 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday. Both I-17 off-ramps at Glendale Avenue will also be closed. Consider using Bethany Home Road or Northern Avenue as alternate routes from 9 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.

Sunday, Northern Avenue will be closed in both directions at I-17. Both I-17 off-ramps at Northern Avenue will be closed, as well. Glendale or Dunlap avenues can be alternate routes.

ADOT said this pilot wrong-way vehicle alert system, being installed between I-10 and Loop 101, will be operational by early 2018.
