FOMO Taking New Meaning In 24-Hour News Cycle, Social Media

To some degree, we all care about what others think of us, and we also don’t want to feel like we’re missing out, that other people are living more exciting, interesting lives than we are.

It’s known as the Fear of Missing Out — or FOMO. The concept isn’t new, but it’s taken on new meaning in the 24-hour news cycle, and it’s especially powerful in social media.

We talked about FOMO with Miriam Liss. She’s a psychology professor at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.
