Big 3 Airlines Say Middle East Competition Violates Open Skies Rules

This week, the CEOs of the so-called “Big Three” U.S. airlines — American, Delta and United — are in the nation’s capital to talk to some of the Trump administration’s cabinet members.

They’re concerned about competition from some carriers based in the Middle East — Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, in particular.

They’re arguing that those airlines are subsidized by their nation’s governments and, by virtue of that, are hurting U.S. carriers and violating Open Skies rules.

Seth Kaplan, editor of Airline Weekly, has been covering the conflict and joined us to explain.
