The Arizona Department of Transportation is trying to limit the number of accidents during three-day Labor Day holiday.
Starting Friday, speed limits will reduced by 10 miles per hour on northbound of Interstate 17. On Monday, the speed limit on I-17 southbound also will be cut by 10 miles per hour.
“If you’re driving on the road just expect their to be extra traffic out there because there is lots of people hitting the roads for the three day weekend," said spokesman for ADOT Doug Pacey. "Especially people in Phoenix who want to cool off for a little bit and they head up north so just be patient, don’t speed, obey the rules of the road and get to where you’re going safely."
I-17 is plagued by bottlenecks and major accidents that often closes the freeway during holiday weekends. ADOT hopes to reduce those problems by getting drivers abiding to slow down.
