Colorado-based Ball Corporation, perhaps best known for the eponymous Ball mason jars, is planning to open a packaging plant in Goodyear.
The Ball Corporation makes many packaging products but no longer makes those home-canning jars, which were spun off a few decades ago.
The company is closing three packaging plants in several states next year, and will start construction on a new 500,000-square-foot packaging facility in Goodyear.
The plant will produce recyclable aluminum cans in different sizes using some automated technology.
The company said it will open the facility in 2018 and plans to hire 120 people, some locally.
