Some news outlets are reporting President Donald Trump plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) with a 6 month delay. The news is getting mixed responses from immigration advocacy groups.
For the Arizona Dream Act Coalition, a move to end DACA would be a good thing because it forces Congress to pass a more permanent solution.
Karina Ruiz, the group’s president, said if DACA stayed an Obama-era executive order, recipients would always be in a state of limbo.
"It is helpful for us, and it gives us hope," said Ruiz. "We believe that the Senate will be in our favor. That they will decide in our favor. The challenge is going to be the House of Representatives."
Other groups, however, say the program should stay intact and that ending it would disrupt the lives of roughly 800,000 immigrants nationwide who were brought to the United Stats illegally as children.
