Dignity Health, Phoenix Children's Hospital Partner To Develop East Valley Facility

Last year, there were more than 6,300 births at East Valley hospitals Dignity Health Chandler and Mercy Gilbert. And that’s a number that’s been going up in recent years.

So they’re expanding. Dignity Health is partnering with Phoenix Children’s Hospital to jointly develop a new facility in the East Valley to bring together experts to target care for both mothers and babies.

But how do health care systems identify these health care gaps? And how do they come about?

Dignity Health and Phoenix Children’s Hospital are partnering to build a new medical tower that will include 24-hour labor and delivery rooms with an emphasis on high-risk patients and a neonatal intensive care unit for newborn babies.

It will also feature an emergency department dedicated to obstetrics and a 12-bed pediatric emergency department.

I recently sat down with Craig McKnight, the CFO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, to talk more about why they’re building this now.
