As of Thursday, more than 76 large fires were burning in nine Western states, according to the interagency fire center. That means thousands of people are fighting those fires and some of the personnel is from Arizona.
More than 26,000 people are fighting the fires, and they’re being backed by more than 200 helicopters, 1,800 trucks and 28 air tankers dropping water and fire-retardant slurry.
Tiffany Davila, of the the Arizona Fire Management, says there are 161 Arizona-based firefighters spread out across the West.
“We have firefighters in Washington, California, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Montana and Colorado," Davila said.
She says the state has also contributed equipment to those efforts, including engines, ambulances and off road vehicles.
Besides fighting fires, Davila says there’s a team helping with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.
