The Arizona Department of Health’s HIV Prevention Program wrapped up a pilot project that provided free home HIV test kits.
John Sapero is with DHS. He said 471 people requested a kit to be mailed to them, while another 14 picked up the kit.
"From those individuals, we had two people learn they were HIV positive. And we had an additional person that confirmed they were HIV positive. And we were able to bring all three of those individuals into medical care and supportive services," Sapero said.
Sapero said he learned about similar programs in cities like Los Angeles and New York and decided to implement it in Arizona.
