Deal or no deal, the fact remains that DACA is set to be rescinded in just a few months. And if that happens, there are many voices in the business community who are warning that effects will be felt far and wide.
The president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce said that, by and large, DACA recipients are productive members of our workforce and that no longer allowing them to work will hurt our state’s economy.
Progressive think tank the Center for American Progress crunched the numbers on this and found that if those about 800,000 workers were removed from the workforce, our country’s gross domestic product, or GDP, would be reduced by more than $430 billion over the next decade.
I spoke with Silva Mathema, senior analyst with the Center for American Progress, more about this and how the effects would be felt across many states — including here in Arizona.
