Arizona’s Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway was the hot topic on the agenda of Monday’s State Board on Geographic and Historic Names meeting.
The board is being asked to rename the highway, but ultimately decided to push the final decision to their next meeting.
Arizona Representative Reginald Bolding has been leading several efforts to remove confederate monuments and names from state property.
He said he hopes that officials will not continue to delay the move.
"I am optimistic though that the board believes that the name Jefferson Davis does not have any significance in Arizona history and I am hopeful that the name is going to be changed," Bolding said.
The board is slated to meet again in late October.
