LUCHA Awarding Scholarships For DACA Recipients To Renew Status

This month, President Donald Trump announced that he would be ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which offers immigrant children legal status to work and attend school. LUCHA, the Living United for Change in Arizona organization, is giving 70 DACA recipients a scholarship to pay the $495 fee required to renew their status.

The only requirement to obtain the funds is to have a completed application with a statement of why assistance is needed.

“We understand that there is a lot at stake especially for those individuals who can at least renew their DACA for two more years and would protect them from deportation,” Abril Gallardo, a DACA recipient and spokesperson for LUCHA said.

Arizona State University has also recently partnered with two foundations that will fully fund renewal fees for about 100 students.
