Demolition is the most action the Phoenix Trotting Park has seen in over 50 years.
You might have seen it while traveling on Interstate 10 west of Phoenix. But after this week, that abandoned trotting park will be no more.
Built in 1964, the park only ran for two years before sitting dormant for the past half-century. Now, safety concerns have prompted the owner to tear it down.
Removing the 20,000 tons of concrete that made up the park will take about three months.
Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord called the track an iconic landmark, saying she is “eager to see how that land will be developed in the near future.”
However, the current owner said the property is not for sale and has no immediate plans following demolition.
