A new national poll is out with results reflecting on many of Southwest’s most pressing issues. An overwhelming majority say DACA recipients should be allowed to stay in the U.S. and apply for citizenship.
Quinnipiac University surveyed more than 1,400 registered voters nationwideand found more than 4 in 5 Americans would like to see so-called “DREAMers” remain in the country and apply for full citizenship. That includes 69 percent of Republicans.
Only one in 10 say they should be kicked out. Nearly 3 in 4 approve of President Donald Trump working with Democrats to pass a law to protect them.
The pollsters also asked if undocumented immigrants in general should be allowed to stay on a path to citizenship; 68 percent responded yes, with slightly more than half saying even if they’ve been convicted of a serious crime.
Quinnipiac also queried respondents on whether they supported building the wall along the Mexican border; 60 percent said no.
