Arizona Red Cross Sends Blood For Las Vegas Shooting Victims

With hundreds of victims pouring into Las Vegas trauma center after a deadly shooting, the American Red Cross is praising blood donors while asking people to continue giving.

Arizona Red Cross sent more than 250 units of blood to help the victims of Sunday night’s attack.

Rita Jevicky with the Red Cross said continued commitment to donating blood is critical in preparing for unexpected tragedies.

“It’s great that people go out and donate today, that’s wonderful,” Jevicky said. “But what we need to think about is that we need blood every day because we don’t know when these tragedies are going to occur.”

In Las Vegas, blood banks currently have hundreds of volunteers lining up at donation sites.

Jevicky said in emergency cases, doctors tend to grab the universal blood type, O-negative, to treat victims. However, she said all blood types are needed.
