U.S. Supreme Court's 2017-18 Term Officially Opens Today

The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2017-18 term officially opened today, and it’s Justice Neil Gorsuch’s first full term as a member of the court.

Gorsuch’s presence has the court on what has been its typical makeup in recent years: four members who are considered conservative, four who are on the liberal side, and Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is considered to be the resident swing vote.

As always, the court will be considering a number of huge issues. This term, those topics include redistricting, religious liberty, gay rights and whistleblowing.

With me to preview the high court’s new term is Vincent Bonventre, professor at Albany Law School and the man behind the blog New York Court Watcher.
