Salvation Army Officers Sent To Help In Las Vegas

Four Phoenix-area Salvation Army officers left Monday night for Las Vegas and have been working in the hospitals to give emotional and spiritual counseling to the victims and their grieving families.

Salvation Army employees and volunteers are also on the scene providing those giving blood with food and drinks.

“All of our Salvation Army officers are trained in these efforts. They are ministry-based and that is where they get their training before they become officers to handle such situations like this. Any kind of disaster situation and any kind of emotional support that somebody needs,” said Scott Johnson, a spokesman for the Salvation Army Southwest division.

Johnson said that it is “impossible to tell” how long the officers will stay there. They will stay in Las Vegas “as long as it takes.”

Ashley Carter was an intern at KJZZ in 2017 and 2018.
