First responders in Las Vegas say they’ve been overwhelmed with donations of food and water. They’ve enlisted local food pantries to collect what they can’t use.

At Catholic Charities in downtown Las Vegas, a group of volunteers are using a pallet jack to organize water bottles and snacks. The agency is one of two working with the city to coordinate and distribute food donations.

Leslie Carmine is a Catholic Charities spokeswoman. She explains they’ll be setting aside some items for first responders, but the Red Cross has instructed them to use the rest to fill the shelves of their food pantry.

"It's actually tremendously helpful. Because our grant money, especially this year. It keeps going down. It keeps getting cut. And we don’t have what we had last year. We’re very fortunate and grateful to receive these items."

Carmine adds in addition to donations, community members are also volunteering to drive collection trucks around town this week.
