140 million consumers were part of the recent Equifax hack, and it’s just the latest in a string of these data breaches that have left millions of Americans at risk.
But, according to one expert from Arizona State University, compromised consumer information in these hacks may be the least of our worries.
Jamie Winterton, Director of Strategy at the Global Security Initiative at ASU, testified in Washington on Wednesday in front of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law. She said a breach this size could compromise our entire economic system, and open the door for serious homeland security concerns.
The Show's Lauren Gilger spoke with Winterton after she testified, and asked her why breaches like this seem to keep happening.
