John McCain and Donald Trump may not agree on much, but the U.S. senator is on board with the president’s strategy in Iran.
In a statement released following Trump’s announcement on Friday that he would not recertify the Iran nuclear deal, McCain called it a quote “welcomed long overdue change.”
McCain, who did not support the deal at the time it was made by the Obama administration in 2015, agreed the deal was not in the nation’s best interests. He accused Iran of supporting terrorism and destructive behavior in the Middle East.
As chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain says he looks forward to conducting thorough oversight on the agreement now that it has kicked backed to Congress for review.
