Generating Power From Evaporation

Every year, reservoirs in Arizona and elsewhere lose water to evaporation. But what if that process could be used to generate energy?

Researchers at Columbia University believe it could be. They estimate evaporation from lakes and reservoirs across the U.S. could generate nearly 70 percent of the energy the country currently produces.

Ahmet Hamdi Cavusoglu is a lead author on a paper about this.
