The 2017 Liberty Medal, which recognizes leadership in the pursuit of freedom, has been awarded to Arizona’s Senior Sen. John McCain.
At a ceremony held in Philadelphia, McCain, who has been representing the state since 1980's, said he’s the luckiest man on earth to have had the opportunity to serve the nation he loves so much for so long.
“And I’ve enjoyed every single day of it. The good ones, and the not so good ones," McCain said. "And I’ve been inspired by the service of better patriots than me.”
The award was presented to McCain by his former Senate colleague, Joe Biden.
During his speech, McCain said the country has a moral obligation to spread the values of the Constitution and he's humbled to join the ranks of past winners.
