A map of Valley Metro's Fiesta Downtown Chandler study area.

The city of Mesa is working to redevelop the area around the Fiesta Mall and wants residents to help plan the area’s transportation future.

Valley Metro and Mesa officials will host an open house where residents can learn more next Thursday, Oct. 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Mesa Police Department, 1010 W. Grove Ave.

“We want to know from the community what is their commute like? What are some of the trouble areas for them?” Valley Metro spokeswoman Corinne Holliday said. “Where do they see some of the most congestion? Where are they traveling and what kind of improvements do they want to see?”

Right now, Mesa’s light rail stretches through downtown. Valley Metro is trying to figure out the best way to loop in the Fiesta Direct to the south.

The public transportation agency’s alternatives analysiswill look at options like extending the light rail, a streetcar or bus rapid transit.

Residents can also share their thoughts about transportation online.

The study will conclude in summer 2019.
