New Effort Aims To Make Valley Drivers Comfortable With Self-Driving Cars

In the Will Smith movie," I, Robot," you can hear the surprise when he tries to actually drive a car by himself.

Off the big screen, though, the sentiment is typically just the opposite. Research shows a lot of people are uncomfortable with the idea of self-driving cars.

One company doing testing on autonomous vehicles here in the Valley is trying to change that. Waymo has launched a campaign called “Let’s Talk Self-Driving” here, which describes the benefits of taking our hands off the wheel.

With me to talk about all of this is Hillary Abraham. She’s a research specialist at the MIT AgeLab. Her work focuses on trust in automation and adoption of advanced driver-assistance systems.
