As of Thursday afternoon, the Transfer Station Fire had grown to 2,500 acres.

State and local fire crews are fighting a wildfire in eastern Arizona. The Transfer Station Fire was discovered around noon Thursday and has grown to an estimated 2,500 acres.

The blaze is burning mostly through grass about 5 miles from the small town of Eagar and a mile-and-an-half from the Springerville Airport. The fire has forced the evacuation of a nearby laminating and wood facility and is threatening a transfer station.

Arizona State Forestry is responding, so are several local fire departments, including Eagar, Springerville, Alpine, Greer, Vernon and St. Johns. More resources are expected.
