This week marked the grand opening of another Family Resource Center, this time in Glendale.
It’s funded by state-run group First Things First, which gives the district $200,000 yearly to help run both centers.
The district makes a classroom available for parenting workshops and help getting government assistance.
Center coordinator Jeanne Johnson said it’s important to have these in a school because it provides an easy segue to get children enrolled.
"This is the child’s first introduction to school. We offer these resources to families with children from birth to five," she said. "Many of these young toddlers and preschoolers call this their school.”
Johnson said the second center opened in Glendale because of an overwhelming interest in the one in Peoria.
