AZ Game And Fish: Leaving Edible Halloween Decor Outside Can Attract Wildlife

The Arizona Game and Fish Department suggests residents put edible Halloween decorations inside. Leaving pumpkins and squash outdoors can attract javelinas, coyotes and other animals.

According to the department’s wildlife education program manager Mike Demlong, Tucson and the Phoenix area have the most pumpkin and animal encounters.

“Undisturbed areas or natural areas are often more prone to having visits from wildlife. But for example, you can live in the center of Phoenix and be visited by a bobcat believe it or not,” Demlog said.

Demlog said the consumption of human food can lead to injuries and property damage. It also is illegal in multiple counties to feed most wild animals.
