Ex-Bookkeeper Indicted On 40 Felony Counts

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has announced a state grand jury indicted a former bookkeeper from the Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District and Sunny Mountain Realty.

Rebecca Sigeti is currently facing 40 felony charges, including theft, misuse of public money, and fraudulent schemes and artifices. The offenses date between 2010 and 2016 and were allegedly committed in Gila County.

According to an investigation by the Office of the Auditor General, Sigeti embezzled more than $841,000 from two employers, the Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District and Sunny Mountain Realty, by issuing authorized checks to herself for her own personal use.

The money allegedly embezzled from the district came from customer security deposits and water-use payments as well as residents’ property tax payments.
