ADOT Releases New Travel Alerts App

Trying to stay up to date with unexpected highway conditions? There’s now an app for that.

The Arizona Department of Transportation released its first travel app on Wednesday.

The free app aims to help travelers avoid hours of delays on major thoroughfares by sending alerts about major accidents or closures to your phone.

Doug Pacey with ADOT says the app is not for common traffic patterns like rush hour.

“This will give you a notification when the I-17 is closed near somewhere between Phoenix and Flagstaff on a weekend, or there’s a big dust storm between Phoenix and Tucson that’s closing I-10,” Pacey said. “Things that are unplanned, unexpected.”

He suggests users keep their phones’ location services on to get geographic-specific updates.

The ADOT Alerts app runs on both Apple and Android phones.
