The City of Phoenix has rejected a citizen petition to ban bump stocks.
Those are the devices that allow a semi-automatic weapon to fire nearly as fast as a fully automatic one. They were used in the mass shooting in Las Vegas last month.
Phoenix Councilwoman and NRA member Thelda Williams said that while she’d love to ban bump stocks, “The city is not allowed to make an ordinance that would address this. This is a state and federal issue.”
The city council instead voted on a resolution to get the state legislature and Congress to pass a ban.
