Within hours after writing what he admitted was “rude and inappropriate” on his Facebook site, Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes posted again. Only this time, he wrote an apology.
In the five minute video, he admitted to voters, “I got this one wrong.”
He read a few of the letters he had received since the post went viral. All of them condemning his actions as a county leader.
Fontes appeared contrite as he read from his own written statement and apologized to his supporters and his colleagues.
“This action of mine distracts from your work,” he said.
He even admitted he “owns” his “misguided” decision to write a sarcastic and fowl mouthed rant, which was aimed at a voter and legislative candidate who criticized his office.
“I’m sorry that this statement has caused the discomfort that it has,” he told voters.
It is plain spoken and direct, but never apologizes to Nathan Schneider himself.
He’s the man at whom Fontes lashed out after receiving criticism for Schneider that his elderly mother was having trouble finding the election date on the mail-in ballots.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
