Nonprofits — from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America to local animals shelters and food kitchens — can have a big impact on the communities they serve. But a new study that looks at their boards shows that they have a privilege problem.

The report came from BoardSource, a nonprofit that works to improve governance in the nonprofit sector. And it shows that even as the country becomes more diverse, nonprofit boards are overwhelmingly white.
