With self-driving technologies advancing, many questions arise on just how far they’ll expand.
The focus currently is on vehicles, but James Kuhr from the University of Texas’ Center for Transportation Research thinks trucking companies are likely to join in.
“On this commercial trucking side you suddenly have people with more money," Kuhr said. "They can go to the bank and they can get a loan and they can amortize their investment over the long term under the understanding that they are gonna, you know their gonna make money in some way."
While the technology can be a benefit for exhausted truck drivers, Kuhr said it can also take the driver’s jobs.
