New ADOT Project Aims To Reduce Traffic Congestion On State Route 347

The Arizona Department of Transportation is building a bridge over the railroad tracks south of the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

According to ADOT spokesman Tom Herrmann, about 60 trains go across the tracks each day, which causes traffic congestion on State Route 347.

Herrmann said the project is important in accommodating Maricopa’s growing population.

“Maricopa is one of the fastest growing cities in the state. They’ve grown from oh between 4 and 5,000 10 to 12 years ago to about 50,000 now. It’s a fast growing community and this will only help," Herrmann said.

The project is expected to take two years and will include construction of an additional route.

Herrmann said commuters for the majority of the project will not have to worry about delays.
