The Trump administration had hoped that NAFTA renegotiations may be on the fast track, with serious consideration given to many U.S. proposals.
But as of this week, it seems like the negotiations are stuck in neutral.
At least part of that is attributable to the U.S. wanting to review NAFTA every five years, which has alarmed some trade negotiators. Mexico has expressed some willingness to consider it, but Canada hasn’t.
