More scheduled fire treatments by the U.S. Forest Service will occur over the next two weeks.
Fire specialists will focus on the Clay Springs and Upper Cherry Creek regions Nov. 27 through Dec. 1. That’s about 20 miles west of Show Low. Residents and visitors to those areas can expect to see and smell heavy amounts of smoke during the day, impacting the communities of Forest Lakes and O.W. Ranch.
Ignitions will end by 3 p.m. each day to minimize the impact of smoke, but residual smoldering may linger in the area and pose some driving hazards, especially in the evening.
Although temperatures are running above average throughout the state, the weather is still suitable to allow land managers to proceed with the scheduled burns. Next week, fire specialists will turn their attention to Bear Canyon and Whispering Pines on Dec. 4-7.
