Last Weekend To Enroll In Affordable Care Act Coverage

This is the last weekend to enroll in Affordable Care Act coverage before the deadline on Dec. 15. Arizona health care specialists are helping others enroll before time runs out.

Staff members from Congressman Raul Grijalva’s office are teaming up with El Rio Health Saturday to help residents sign up for coverage. Nathaniel Sigal works for Grijalva. He says assistance is even more important this year, since the enrollment period was cut in half.

“We’ve also seen the budget for outreach slashed by 90 percent. So it’s critical for local organizations and healthcare centers to host these types of events and ensure that everybody, not only is covered, but they’re aware that there are affordable options available to them," Sigal said.

Sigal says eight in 10 applicants qualified for financial assistance during the enrollment period last year.

Health care specialists will be there to help residents sign up for programs like Medicaid and CHIP as well. Organizations in the Valley are also offering enrollment assistance including Keogh Health Connection in Phoenix.
