Pantone, the leader in setting color trends, has predicted purple as the color for 2018.
It may be in part due to the political movement underfoot in states like Arizona, where the traditional Republican red could see Democratic blue pouring into the political mix.
Currently, Arizona law requires Democrat and Republican state lawmakers wanting to run for Congress to vacate their local seats before entering the race.
That threatens to open up a series of legislative seats as Democrats and Republicans vie for Trent Franks' U.S. District 8 seat and Jeff Flake's Senate seat.
U.S. Representative Paul Gosar said he sees no threat to his conservative party, but rather an opportunity for new talent to fill in.
"Arizona is a red state that has some moderate blue stripes here and there during different times," Gosar declared.
As for the current divisive culture in D.C., Gosar said, "We've been one of the work horses in the delegation and we like getting things done."
Whoever wins the Congressional House and Senate seats will join a contingency focused on local issues, he said, "from health care to natural resource issues, to energy to business, we're no wall flower in issues pertaining to AZ and this country."
Among current registered voters, the Republican's red voters nearly double the Democrat's blue voters, but about a third are purple Independents with no allegiance to one party or the other.
