AHDS Rolls Out Electronic WIC System Early

The Arizona Department of Health Services has completed a multiyear effort to launch an electronic system called eWIC.

The new program replaces the paper checks with a card for families that participate in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.

ADHS completed the statewide deployment of eWIC in late November, more than two years before the October 2020 mandate from the United States Department of Agriculture, which funds the WIC program.

Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services said, “The transition from paper to an electronic platform significantly strengthens the program, increases efficiencies, and improves the WIC experience for stakeholders.”

WIC families can also download the EzWIC app that will allow them to search the WIC Food List, scan WIC-approved items in the store, and check their current benefit balance.
