The Ninth Circuit of Appeals ruled on Friday that anyone detained by the U.S. Border Patrol for more than 12 hours must be furnished with blankets and mats.
The Border Patrol had tried arguing that mats meant people would lie down, making it harder to put more people in holding cells. The court didn’t agree.
It also rejected arguments from plaintiff attorneys that the agency should furnish detainees with mattresses, showers or more adequate medical care in the temporary detention centers.
