Most Arizona Fire Crews Return From California

Almost all of the Arizona fire crews that were sent to California have returned home, just in time for Christmas. A few are still working to help control Southern California’s wildfires.

Just 30 of the more than 160 Arizona firefighters returned from California on Friday, Dec. 22.

Tiffany Davila, with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, said most of the crews were sent home after battling wildfires for 14 days.

“We’re fortunate to have them back safe," Davila said. "We’re happy to have them back, just in time for Christmas.”

Davila said the remaining crews are the ones who’ve been in California for the least amount of time.

They were sent there to relieve others who’d timed out and to prepare for future wind events in California. They’re expected to return within the next week.
