The scientific effort to draw true conclusions on whether marijuana helps people suffering from PTSD has been a process full of obstacles.
One of the leaders on the research front has been Dr. Sue Sisley, who was let go by the University of Arizona in 2013 after she’d already begun her study. Recently, she’d been working with Johns Hopkins University specifically on the impact smoking pot can have on veterans with PTSD. But last spring, that collaboration also ended.
That hasn’t stopped Sisley — currently the President of Scottsdale Research Institute and Site Principal Investigator on the cannabis/veterans clinical trial. She is working on getting a total of 76 U.S. military veterans who live in Arizona to be in the controlled clinical trial. At this point, 32 have enrolled.
The study has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration and is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The research is being sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.
