Another burn ban is in place this weekend in Maricopa County, due to a high amount of pollution. Valley health experts say to stay inside as much as possible.
Wood burning is one of the biggest contributors to poor air quality and weather conditions in the Valley are trapping pollutants, as if lighting a fire in your home without a chimney.
Dr. Neal Jain is an allergist who specializes in asthma. He said particulate matter in the air can worsen pre-existing lung conditions like asthma or COPD.
“Additionally, there’s been a lot of data that’s come out to suggest that people that have cardiovascular risk factors such as a history of high blood pressure, coronary artery disease," Jain said. "The particulate matter can also affect that.”'
For those planning to be outdoors this weekend, Jain said it’s important to limit the amount of time you spend outside, limit physical activity and close the windows in your car and home.
