It’s illegal to fire guns in celebration anywhere in Arizona, but officers in Glendale are making it even tougher to get away with on New Year’s Eve.
Glendale Police Sgt. Scott Waite said the city is partnering with Shot Spotter, a real-time gunshot detection and alert system.
“They provide us with, I guess — for lack of a better term — antennas that we situate throughout our city," Waite said. "When someone fires off gunshots, it kind of triangulates it and tells us exactly where they’re being fired from.”
Waite said the technology narrows down the firing spot within feet to help zero in on suspects. Firing a gun into the air is a felony under Shannon’s Law.
