Pat Tillman

Sunday marks 20 years since Pat Tillman walked off a field in El Paso, Texas, after playing his last football game for Arizona State University.

According to Cronkite News, decades later, Tillman’s legacy of selflessness and bravery lives on through former teammates like Jake Plummer.

“He was always there for you," Plummer said. "He was always challenging you to be a better person, a better human, a better man and then on from here to the Cardinals and playing in the pros. You know, just a guy who was an exceptional character, but didn’t just talk about it, but really lived the lifestyle.”

Tillman left his professional sports career in the NFL to serve his country after the 9/11 attacks. He died in 2004 in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan.
