Residents from all over the Phoenix area came together for the “March to Save Our Schools” in Phoenix on Saturday morning.
Citizens surrounded the Arizona Capitol building with signs like “Strong Schools Equal A Strong State,” and “I’ll care for you tomorrow if you invest in me today.”
Carolyn Kavanagh is a retired public school teacher who said she’s seen the deterioration of public school funding. She said every child deserves the same resources regardless of their socioeconomic status.
"Teachers now have so many different types of children in their classrooms without enough resources, so they can reach every child," Kavanagh said. "I just wish people would honor the profession, pay them what they’re worth and stop making teachers political footballs."
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton also spoke before the crowd, saying he would march for his children and his mother, who was a teacher.
